Passing Through San Francisco in 1851

Several of my ancestors passed through early-day San Francisco on the way to gold mining or as part of long distance moves.  They didn’t have much to say about the city other than to note that they’d ‘quickly passed through.’

What did San Francisco look like in 1851?  Nothing like today.

Family history research is a favored avenue of relaxation. It is a Sherlock-like activity that can continue almost anywhere at any time.
