USS Akron over New York City

Aircraft have changed over the decades.  The USS Akron was a 6,500,000 cubic foot rigid airship that was commissioned in 1931.  Unfortunately, after only a short period of service that involved fatal accidents, she crashed tail-first into the ocean on 4 Apr 1933.  Only three of her crew of seventy-six men survived.
