Engagement Rings ~ Relics of Barbarism

According to Frederick Starr, an anthropology professor at the University of Chicago in 1902, engagement rings are a relic of barbarism from slave days.  

I personally know a very large number of beautiful ladies that would take umbrage with his statement.  Of course, there is also a smaller group who would agree with his assessment.  

Guess which group enjoys happy marriages..
