My ancestor, Lion Gardiner, lead a life of adventure, bravery, peacemaking, war and
political savvy.
Much of his history is recorded in his diary. It is an interesting read for his descendants and current day residents of Long Island, New York, offering an insight into the history of that part of the world as seen through the eyes of a 17th century European soldier, settler.
Lion’s impressive tomb in the South End Cemetery, East Hampton worthy of a man of such adventure and accomplishment.

His story is not complete until one studies the history of Gardiner’s Island, a property still in the Gardiner family after all of the intervening centuries..
A brief video story of Lion and his island home.

I’m a descendent, too. I wish some of the wealth had trickled down!
Thank you for posting this!!! I am a descendant! I visited East Hampton 2 years ago and can’t wait to return. I found great help at the Library there and viewed the artifacts that belonged to Lion and his descendants. I would love to tour the Island someday!!
