War Veteran ~ Don’t Tell The Kids

I wish that we had the story behind this photo of a German soldier that was taken during World War II but suspect the stories we invent are far more glamorous or detailed than the truth.

I’ll be kind to this poor man saying that he was on his way back from the privy, dressed just in his night shirt and fearing that the cats paws would get cold in the snow gave it a ride atop his helmet.  

I’m sure that if he ever saw the photo, he begged the owner to never show it to his wife and family.
