A fairly large percentage of the population of the eastern U.S. descends through the
early settlers of Kings County, New York.
The early Dutch settlers of New York were contemporaries of the Pilgrims and Puritans of New England. We read a little less of them than of the famous Mayflower passengers, but their lives were equally fascinating.
Teunis G. Bergen’s book “In Alphabetical Order, of the Early Settlers of Kings County, Long Island, N. Y., from its First Settlement by Europeans to 1700" gives us a very good list of many of the earlier settlers and their brief history.
Fortunately, we can read the book online.
Thanks Google Books!
