The Virginia militia was very active during the Revolutionary war. They were often
engaged in driving Lord Dunmore from location to location in battles from the tide waters to the Blue Ridge.
They were active in the Shenandoah Valley standing off attacks by Indians who attacked both under inspiration by the British and for their own reasons.
My own ancestors were active in the militia both on the western frontier and in direct battles with the British forces.
Joseph Thompson McAlister’s book, “Virginia militia in the Revolutionary War is an excellent resource to genealogy and history researchers.
Thanks to Google Books, it is available for all of us to read at any time.
