Victory gardens were an essential part of life during wars of days gone by. If a family wanted to eat fresh vegetables, stretch their budgets and have a selection of vegetables not gener5ally available in stores, they grew their own Victory Garden.
Seeds were needed to plant these gardens. Many urbanites hadn’t grown plants from seeds before and had no idea what to plant. Local farmers supply store clerks and owners came to the rescue.
The smells and browsing entertainment in nurseries and garden supply stores are still high on my list of enjoyment. How about you? Are you growing your own Victory Garden this year in an attempt to overcome financial pressures and to enjoy the wonderful tastes of fresh fruits and vegetables?
