History of Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania

One of my early American ancestral families lived in Westmoreland County,history_westmoreland_pa Pennsylvania thanks to the payment of land given grandpa for serving and being severely wounded in the Revolutionary War.

Most of the family only remained in Ligonire Valley until around 1840 when grandpa sold the farm to his oldest son and moved the rest of the family west to Ohio.

The history of Westmoreland County, is full of tales of brave people like those associated with grandpa and his family.  Without knowing about their environment, we can’t understand or know them.

The book, “History of the County of Westmoreland, Pennsylvania with Biographical Sketches of many of its Pioneers and Prominent Men” by George Dallas Albert is ‘must’ reading for me.

Many of you have ancestors who lived in Westmoreland County too.  Thanks to Google Books, we can enjoy the book online.
