U.S. Civil War ~ Building A Telegraph Line

Looking like birds of prey, two men stand atop two recently hewn tree trunks in this April 1864 photo of a Union communications detachment.

The poles didn’t have to stand for too many years.  Both sides in the war thought they would win long before the poles rotted off and the telegraph lines fell to the ground.

Men on the ground are seen with stringing line in their hands ready to pull in the telegraph wire.

Family history research is a favored avenue of relaxation. It is a Sherlock-like activity that can continue almost anywhere at any time. By leveraging a lifetime involvement in technology, my research efforts have resulted in terabytes of ancestral data, earning me the moniker of Lineagekeeper. And yes - We are all related to Royalty.
