A family outing in Isaac Welton’s car ended in tragedy on 6 Sep 1913 in Spencer, Massachusetts. As Isaac turned the wheels to pass a wagon, the wheel on the front collapsed throwing the family out onto the ground.
Unfortunately, Isaac’s sister, Mary, the wife of Moses Gentleman, was thrown into a telephone pole, which broke her neck. She died before medical help could arrive.
Vehicle accidents have claimed lives since their invention when both parts and drivers have failed.
Mary was the daughter of Parker and Charlotte Welton and the wife of Moses H. Gentleman, who was born in New Hampshire. Moses and Mary were married on 22 Jan 1871 in Boston.
