A History of Long Island

Long Island was home for many of my early American ancestors, both Dutch andhistory_long_island English in origin although some were Scandinavian.  They tended to cluster toward the ends of the island rather than populating the fertile middle lands.

Thanks to Google Books, we can read about the folks, government and culture of the folks who lived from the days of the earliest settlers up to more contemporary times in the book, “A History of Long Island: From Its Earliest Settlement To the Present Time by Peter Ross and William Smith Pelletreau.

Some of my ancestors are mentioned in it.  Are any of yours?
