- Obituary of Jack Earl Cook
Jack Earl Cook, 86, of Pleasant Grove was reunited with his loving wife Beth on Friday, November 10, 2006. He was born May 3, 1920 in American Fork, Utah to John Randolph and Sadie Peterson Cook and was raised by his grandparents, James Christian and Elnora Peterson in Pleasant Grove. He married Beth Wanlass on November 20, 1940. Beth passed away in August of 2005.
Jack grew up in Pleasant Grove and graduated from Pleasant Grove High School. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater and returned home highly decorated. Upon Jack's return he studied architecture. He designed many homes in Utah County during his career of 30 years. In later years, he worked for the LDS Church as a Building Coordinator in charge of construction of church facilities for the western United States.
Jack was active in civic affairs in Pleasant Grove and served on the Planning Commission and a term as Mayor.
Jack overcame many challenges and exhibited great patience in life after he and Beth were involved in an auto accident in 1973. He lived his last 34 years as a quadriplegic and accomplished many artistic projects in the fields of painting, lapidary, and jewelry. He was twice featured in "Rock & Gem" magazine his original "nopals" (artificial opals).
Jack was very faithful member of the LDS church serving on many committees, teaching and as the member of the Bishopric. He remained faithful to the end.
Jack is survived by three sons: Darrell J. Cook, Pleasant Grove; James W. (Diane) Cook, St. George; Tom E. (Muriel) Cook, Highland; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and special niece, Karen and Mike Johnson and family.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in the Timpanogos Stake Center, 750 North 100 West, Pleasant Grove. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove and at the church on Wednesday one our prior to services. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Utah Army National Guard.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and aids from Applegate Home Care, Heritage Care Center, and A Plus Hospice for their kind, loving care of Jack over the years.
