  Notes	History: William Tirrill was a Carpenter or House right. He accompanied his father to Carolina ca. 1670, when his father first went there; his father claiming to have imported William as part of his household. How long William may have stayed in Carolina is not known. He returned to New England and settled in Weymouth near 1672, or a little later. He must have returned to Carolina with his son Samuel, in 1716, sufficiently long [enough] to have sold the plantation, known as THE QUARTER, which his father left to him by his Will. He is probably the William Tirrell who moved from Boston to Weymouth in 1672, and definitely the William Tirrell who became a Freeman there in 1678/9. He purchased the whole of the Pratt grant of land in Abington from the sons of John Shaw on 3 Mar[ch] 1705, and settled on this land soon afterwards. He owned a Saw Mill there which he deeded to his sons William, Gideon, and Samuel in separate deeds. He was one of the founding members of the First Congregational Church in Abington. In his Will, dated 27 Apr[il]1727, he signs as "William Tirrill," but is variously called "William Torrel" and "William Terrell" in the body of the Will. His wife and children are referred to as "Abigel [T]erell," "Abigail [T]errel," "Abigail Torrel;" "William Terrell," "William [T]orell," "Gideon Torrel," "Gidien Terrell," "Thomas [T]errel," "Thomas [T]errell," "Thomas [T]orell" and "Samuel [T]erell." In Old Abington, his home was near the present Whitman-East Bridgewater town line.
