| Notes |
- Alexander Nathaniel Baker was an immigrant. He emigrated to America with his family on the "Elizabeth and Ann" in 1635. He settled in Boston, then moved to Gloucester in 1642 and was back in Boston by 1645.
He was a collar maker and a rope maker (Source: Colket, Meredith B., Jr. Founders of Early American Families. Rev. Ed. Cleveland, Ohio: The General Court of Founders and Patriots of America, 1985, p. 14) According to entries in the DAR Lineage Book, Alexander was born in London, England and took the freeman's oath in Boston in 1646 (Entry 2105, Vol. 3, p. 45, and, Entry 6153, Vol. 7, pp. 63-64).
Other references include: "Early Families of New London and Viscinity", Parkhurst, Charles Dwyer. "History of Montville", Baker, Henry A. ----------------------------------
There exists a different record, unsubstantiated, that Alexander's father was not Thomas Baker, but, instead another Alexander Baker. This senior Alexander is said to have been born in Centerden, England about 1556-1585 and died 1610-1670. It also states that Alexander junior would have been born also in Clifford, England. The senior Alexander's father is said to have been George Baker, b. 1516-1559 Centerden, England, and d. 1556-1640. --------------------------------- Alexander's will was read in 1684.
Alexander is listed as a 'Clerk of the Market' as of 11 Mar 1666/67 in Boston as listed in the 'Town Officials of Colonial Boston. 1634 - 1775. He is then listed as a Tithingman on 24 Apr 1676 (vol 7: 100-101)
