    • Captain Thomas J. Anderson, Jr., son of John, and a nephew of Judge Thomas J. Anderson, was born on his father's farm less than two miles east of Marion, September 20, 1835, and died on the same place January 2, 1865. He was captain of Co. E. 12th Reg. Ind. Vol. Inf., and served for over three years in the war, and till his health gave way. He was one of the 110 men selected by Gen. Sherman to enter and do special duty in Mississippi. He was a brave soldier, and on all occasions truthful and upright. He was faithful among the faithless. As a boy and as a man he was true and reliable; hence he enjoyed the confidence and respect of all who knew him. Sorrow and tears marked his untimely fate.
    Notes 
    • Thomas was the Captain of Company E, Twelfth Regiment Indiana Volunteer Infantry, serving in the late war more than three years. He was one of 110 men selected to enter and do special duty in Mississippi.
