  	Died At Salt Spring Valley, Calaveras county, on Saturday, May 1st, 1880, Jacob S. Tower, a native of Springfield, Vermont, aged 52 years. Mr. Tower was a native of Springfield, Vermont. His was one of those restless spirits which the narrow bounds of his native State could not e confined to. The inducements offered and the rewards held forth by the discovery and acquisition of the new El Dorado found him among those hardy Pioneers who were pushing their enterprises up to and beyond the frontier of the country. For the past 29 years he had been a resident of this State. Twenty-five of which he had intimately identified himself with the interests of this county. The community has lost a man whose place will be hard to fill. He has left a monument of his industry, in not only the acquiring and improvement of his own home, but his handiwork can be seen and his influence felt upon almost every road and mountain trail throughout the county. As a husband and father, nothing within the limits of his means was too good to make home happy and pleasant for his wife and children. Hospitable to a fault, the "latch string was always out." Charitable -- his purse was always open to every deserving object. No person ever left his door hungry or shelterless for the want of a roof to cover him. His career is ended and the restless spirit at rest. To his wife, children and business partner we can but offer our heartfelt sympathies. Died In Salt Spring Valley, on Saturday, May 1st, 1880, Jacob S. Tower, a native of Vermont, aged 49 years. Mr. Tower was among the pioneer settlers of Calaveras, having lived in this county since 1880, we believe. He was a man of correct principles, strict integrity and acknowledged probity, held in the highest estimation by all who knew him. Mr. Tower was well known throughout Calaveras and San Joaquin counties, and the intelligence of his death will be received with unmixed regret by an extensive circle of friends and acquaintances.
