      ROBERT H BENNETT & CATHERINE BENNETT
      This gentleman was born in Ligonier Valley, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, August 28, 1819. April 5, 1845, he married Catherine Bennett, who was born in Warren County, Ohio, May 14, 1828. In the autumn of 1840, Mr. Bennett emigrated to Ohio, and landed at Cincinnati, had but twenty-six cents in his pocket, twenty five of which he paid for his supper, and thus he began life with one cent. He subsequently located in Warren County, where, for some five years, he was engaged in teaching. In 1850 he opened a store of general merchandise in Mason, which he carried on until January, 1868, when his son, John Calvin, succeeded him, and has since been engaged in the same business. Mr. Bennett belongs to that class of men which give tone and solidity to a community. Though unpretentious, he has exhibited great benevolence and liberality towards all objects of charity and merit. During the thirty-four years for which he has been identified with its interest he has contributed not a little to the building up of the village of Mason. Among the positions of responsibilities and honor which he has held may be mentioned that of Justice of the Peace for some twenty years, also Notary Public for nearly the same length of time.       R.H. Bennett was born in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania., August 28, 1819. He was married to Catherine Bennett of Warren County April 5, 1845, who has born him one son and two daughters, viz., John C., May E., Emma B., who died in infancy. He was reared a poor boy and at the time he came to Ohio, in the fall of 1840, he landed in Cincinnati with twenty-six cents in money, 25 of which he paid for his supper. Possessing both energy and health, he went to work with a will, and he has won. His educational qualifications, which he secured through his own efforts, enabled him to teach, which he successfully did for five years. In 1850, the savings of ten years enabled him to open a store of general merchandise in Mason, which he carried on with profit to himself 'til he closed out in 1868, when his son John C., became his successor. Mr. Bennett is one of the most energetic and enterprising citizens, and a highly esteemed gentleman in the community. Though unassuming in disposition, he is benevolent and liberal, and all enterprises of a meritorious characters he generously supports. For forty-two years he has been identified with his community's interest, and during that period of time he has done much in the was of assisting public improvement. In 1863, he was elected Justice of the Peace, and was commissioned Notary Public at the same time, and the responsibilities of each he has discharged with credit to himself and entire satisfaction to all whose interest were in his hands.       Catherine Bennett, eldest daughter of Nicholas and Rachel Bennett, was born in Warren County, Ohio, May 14, 1828. She was married to her cousin, Robert H. Bennett, April 5, 1845. Robert H. Bennett was born in Ligonier Valley, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania August 28, 1819. He was reared a poor boy and at the time he came to Ohio in the fall of 1840, he landed in Cincinnati with twenty-six cents in his pocket. Twenty-five of it he paid for his supper, thus beginning life on a capital of one cent. Possessing health and energy, he went to work with a will, and the results of his long and useful life are well known by many of the younger generation. Robert and Catherine Bennett were most highly respected citizens of the community in which they lived. Robert H. Bennett died September 12, 1892. His wife, Catherine, died March 26, 1894.
