July 15, 1925 - March 4, 2012
Julius McCandless Hoggard, aka "Julie Baby" or Grandpa Hoggard, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 4th at 8:35pm at St. Marks Hospital from kidney failure secondary to acute pancreatitis.
Julius was a compassionate, generous, jovial and loving person who will be missed by all who were blessed to know him. Julie was a devoted spouse, loving father, incredible friend and fantastic grandpa to many - even thosenot related to him. Whether he was driving a jeep, building trains and doll houses or chasing yardbirds, Grandpa Hoggard brought joy to all who knew him.
Julius was born in American Fork to Glen Eldredge Hoggard and Laura Hazel McCandless on July 15, 1925. Julie was a terrific brother, and a proud "Caveman." He served as an electrician's mate in the Navy on the USS Sebec (tanker) during World War II from June 1943-April 1946 and Korea aboard the USS Montrose (amphibious assault ship) from September 1950-March 1952.
Julie eloped with the love of his life, Beverly Bennett Joye Hoggard, August 30, 1946. Their marriage was later solemnizedin the Logan Temple. Julie and Beverly had four children who adored their Dad.
Julius valued education and graduated from the University of Utah with a BS in electrical engineering and a M.B.A. Living a life of service was critical to Julius and he spent 35 years serving as an executive for Utah Power and Light.
Julius was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly, his sisters and brothers, Hope, Blaine, Louise, Glen and Eldredge. He is survived by his children: Julie (Jeff) Olson, Dale (Kitty), Jill (David) Green and Suzanne (Rick), many nieces and nephews, 26 grandchildren and soon to be 25 great grandchildren.
The family expresses appreciation for Dad's excellent caregivers, Maria "Mapi" Del Pilar and the waitresses at Sharon's Cafe.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Highland Park Ward Building, 2535 South Douglas Street (1200 East).
