    • Salina Farrar Obituary

      Mrs. Salina Farrar, 92, died 21 December 1909 at her home in Macon. She was born 6 June 1816 in England, near Huddersfield, Yorkshire county and married John Farrar there about 1838. Three children - William H., Alfred and Sarah were born in the mother country. About 1848 the family came to America, landed in New York and then went to Massachusetts, settling near Curtisville. Mr. Farrar was a silk spinner by trade. He worked in several locations before coming to Missouri in January 1858 where they since resided. Her husband died in November 1882. In America there were six children born, making a total of nine. Postmaster, Charles Farrar being the youngest. Three of the children -- Alfred, Emily and Samuel died. The oldest William H. resides in St. Louis. Those not mentioned are Mrs. Gus Strong, Mrs. Sarah Gilbert, Mrs. Butler Barnes and Miss Eliza Farrar. After leaving England none of the Farrars ever returned even on a visit. They became throughly Americanized and always spoke of the U.S. as "Our Country."
