Hans Hammer was the son of Hans and Anne Anderson Hammer; was born October 11, 1829, at Bornholm, Denmark adn died Sept. 14, 1905, aged 75 years,11 months and 4 days. He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1853, and the year following emigrated to Utah, arriving in Salt Lake City in 1854. He lived in Salt Lake City for the next five years, working a great part of his time on the temple. In 1858 he moved to Lehi, where he has ever since made his home.

For a time he ran a peddling business to Camp Floyd, and also supplied teh Salt Lake Home with fruit and vegetables, when the house was kept by Ferrymore Little, who was afterwards mayor of Salt Lake City. He also opened a store in Lehi, where he traded goods to the people for their produce, and in teh first year of co-operation he sold his stock of goods to the old Lehi Union Exchange, accepting stock in the Exchange for his stock of goods, he had then on hand.

He afterwards traded his Lehi Exchange stock to Bishop John Brown of Pleasant Grove for the farm of 20 acres, which he has ever since owned. About 1880 he started a livery and hotel business, which he continued until Feb., 10, 1905, and the day before his retirement he purchased the stock and livery business fo People's Co-op, Lehi, all of which business he transferred to his sons, who still continue it.

Bro. Hammer was married in his native land to Miss Anne C. Reese, who bore him eight children, three of whom are now alive and live in Lehi. She died in 1867. In 1868, Bro. Hammer married Miss Christena L. Orego. They had seven children. Two are now alive and live in Lehi.

Bro. Hammer has always manifested full faith in the gospel, as taught by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and was prompt in all his business dealings. Of late years he has had much sickness, and suffered much before death brought him release.

The children who survive him are Mrs. Ed Cox, Mrs. H. Ashton, George Hammer, Samuel Hammer and Joseph Hammer.
