- Obituary of Otto Eugene Bennett
World War I Vet Buried Tue. In Alpine Plot
Otto Eugene Bennett, 54, native of Alpine, died in the Veteran's hospital in Salt Lake City, Friday at 3:30 a.m. from a long standing illness. He had been confined to the hospital since August.
Funeral services were conducted in the Anderson and Sons Mortuary Tuesday at 12 noon under the direction of Stanley D. Roberts, bishop of the Second ward. "No Night There" was sung by Mrs. Van A. Vance who was accompanied by Mrs. Richard Deveraux. Following the invocation by Walter B. Devey, Mrs. Elry Wild read a biographical sketch.
Only speaker was President Edward W. Burgess who told of his long acquaintance with the deceased and discussed the resurrection.
Ross Burgess, accompanied by his wife, sang "Hold Thou My Hand". The benediction was pronounced by Melvin E. Dunkley and Henry E. McNeill dedicated the grave in teh Alpine cemetery.
Full military honors were recorded the deceased under the direction fo Charles Brooks, commander of Post 49, American Legion. The flag was folded by Commander Brooks and Clark L. Tolton, first vice commanders, and presented to the next of kin by Mr. McNeill, post Chaplin. George E. Graff, second vice commander, was in charge of the firing squad which included: Kenneth Taylor, Kay Walton, David Green and Melvin E. Dunkley Jr. Taps were played by John Van Wagoner and Dick Bate.
Mr. Bennett was born Jan. 3, 1896, in Alpine, a son of Robert N. and Rosa Logie Bennett. He had never married.
A veteran of World War I, he was on the boat to sail for France when the 1918 armistice was signed and his company were returned home. He has been employed by the Utah construction company.
Surviving are a sister and brother, Mrs. Elizabeth Drew, American Fork, and Silas Bennett, Alpine.

- Otto wrote poetry and was a published author. He also wrote the words to several songs, two of which, 'The Trapper's Song' and 'My Western Girl' were published in New York City by 'Frank Harding Music Publisher' Company.
