  Notes	Notes for THOMAS LEAVITT: Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire page 425 LEAVITT, Thomas, Hampton, of no known relation to the prominent Exeter family from Hingham, was himself first at Exeter where he signed the Combin. in June 1639, but removed before Marriage in 1643 to Hampton. Mr. V. C. Sanborn's theory that he was the son of Thomas Leavitt, bp. at Melton, co. York, 8 July 1594, and nephew of Reverand Ralph L of Grainsby, Lincolnshire, who m. Anne Hutchinson (Edward), is unconfirmed. By 1644 he had m. Isabel (Bland), widow of Francis Austin (1), and living on the Austi homestead. List 393a. Selectman 1657, 1667; Constable 1664; Grand Jury.1679; O. A. t Mass. 1678. Gr. j. 1679. Freed from training 1681. Lists 373, 376a, 391b, 392b, 393ab, 49, 396, 397a, 398, 52. D. 28 Nov. 1696, 80. He was 60 odd in 1676. Will 9 July 1692, witnessed by three Drakes, names with 4 sons (John exec.), step-daughters., and son Hezron's son Thomas. Widow. Isabel's will 8 Feb. 1699-1700 (d. 19 Feb.) names only one s. John (executor), her three Austin daughters, and granddaughter Sarah Knowles. Children: Hezron, b. 1644. Aretas, b. 1646. John, b. 1648. James, b.10 Nov. 1652, recorded as son of Thomas and Elizabeth. ******************************** Thomas Leavitt was one fo the first settlers of Exeter, and a signer of the "Combination" in 1639. He moved to Hampton, New Hampshire as early as 1644 and married Isabella (Bland) Asten, the daughter of Joshua and Joanna Bland of Colchester, England and the widow of Francis Asten who had died a year or two before..
