- Udell McKay Larsen, 95, was born 5 January 1916 in Mount Pleasant, Utah; he passed away peacefully at his home in Alamo, California on Monday 28 November 2011.
Udell was the ninth of ten children of George Washington Larsen and Petra Eliza Lund. His childhood was spent in Centerfield, and the Sugar House neighborhood of Salt Lake City, attending South HS and University of Utah.
He served in World War II in the 8th Army Air Force as a Signal Corps Radio Technician, where he had the honor of installing the latest radio equipment then riding in the planes of General Eisenhower, General Doolittle, and the famous band leader, Glen Miller.
Upon returning from England he married Laura(el) Elaine Logie on the 29th of March, 1946 and had two sons Randall and Kim.
He enjoyed a thirty-eight-year career with the Federal Aviation Administration as an electronics engineer mainly at San Francisco International Airport and Long Beach Area. He oversaw the safety and installed instrument landing systems and radar in the towers at many of the western states airports.
In his retirement years he and his wife, who was a retired nurse, had a daycare in their home and cared for many children, including their granddaughter Jenny.
Udell enjoyed Big Band music and the Mills Brothers, dancing the fox trot and the waltz, eating pot roast, sweet and sour prawns with wonton soup, most of all he loved his family and all children.
Udell was patient, thoughtful, cheerful, dependable, resourceful, and happiest when he was helping others. He was a good friend, husband, father, and grandfather. He is remembered and loved dearly by his numerous nieces and nephews in the Larsen and Logie families. His life was the result of living by the motto "Just do the best you can."
He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings and his son, Randall. He is survived by son, Kim McKay Larsen (Kari), Robin Larsen; grandchildren, Kim McKay Larsen II, Tamara (James) West; and great-grandchildren, Emma and Lily West of Las Vegas, Jane Liu, granddaughter and daughter of Randall; Jennifer Liu Larsen of Danville, California; Ohan Nuygen of Hawaii, Kari Larsen and step-grandchildren; Joseph, Jack Randall Jr., Kimberly, Kaycee, and Karlee Rader of Las Vegas.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at Elysian Gardens in Millcreek Township, Utah, where he will be interred next to his wife and son. A memorial service will be held at the LDS Chapel on Stone Valley Road in Alamo, California on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at 10:00 a.m.
