- Fern Greenwood Kelly Obituary
1915 ~ 2007
Fern, 91, passed away peacefully February 24, 2007 at her son's home in Provo, Utah. She was born November 25, 1915 in American Fork, Utah to Jacob Leroy Greenwood and Lowella Boley. Fern married James Ordell Kelly April 22, 1936 in the Salt Lake Temple. They had three children: James Patrick (Chloe Ann Hutchings), Nancy (deceased), and David Mac Kelly. She has five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Ordell passed away May 17, 1971 leaving her a widow for 36 years. Fern is the last of her generation on both the Greenwood and Kelly side.
Fern was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has lived in the McKinley Ward for the past 62 years. She served as Relief Society president for nine years as well as president in Primary and Mutual. As a young bride, she worked at the Paris Co. in Salt Lake City. After her husband passed away, Fern worked at the State Capitol in the Archives until she retired. She served every Friday for 18 years in the laundry at the SL Temple. She worked in food concessions at the Utah State Fair Grounds for may years and then at the University of Utah for 38 years until the age of 88. Recently Fern was honored as the "Fan of the Game" at a U of U basketball game.
All will remember Fern as hard working, giving hours of service to others, singing in groups, and being a great Bridge player. Her family and friends will continue to feel of her warmth while snuggling in the quilts and afghans she made for them. The family would like to thank Roger Hiatt and Claudia Powell of Hospice Alliance for their patience and loving care.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 3 at 11:00 a.m. at the McKinley Ward, 1883 S West Temple, Salt Lake City. Viewing will be held Friday March 2, 6 to 8 pm at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 E 100 N, American Fork as well as at the church 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral service. Burial will take place at the American Fork Cemetery at 3 pm.
