- Richard G. Greenland Obituary
"Together Again"
1929 ~ 2012
On the morning of April 17, 2012, as a result of a stroke, Richard G Greenland, a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, returned with honor to his Father in Heaven. His timing was such that he was able to celebrate his 83rd birthday with his sweetheart, Darleen. Richard was born April 19, 1929 in Highland, Utah. He was the second son and fourth Child of Clarence Greenland and Maud Miller Greenland. He graduated from American Fork High School and then went on a mission to Canada for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After his mission, he married Darleen Ann Bunker in the Salt Lake City Temple on November 21, 1951. Richard served in many callings throughout his life and was always faithful in the church. He has said many times that he always knew that the gospel was true. He served as a ward clerk, music director, temple worker, and in the bishopric. He and Darleen loved to sing and often sang duets together. They taught their children a love of music also. Many people will remember Richard as the Grocery Manager of Reams Food in American Fork. He and Darleen were able to serve three missions together; Canada, Calgary; South Africa, Johannesburg; and Kentucky, Louisville. Darleen passed from this life on December 5, 2006, and Richard has been waiting for this joyful reunion.
He is survived by his children: Ruth Aileen (Keith Lenard) Makin, Richard G (Silvia Graciela Avila), Roy Francis, Cynthia (Mark) Rich, Kenneth Bunker (Dorothy Ellen Engles), Douglas Mack (Jill Larsen), Tamara Faye Frank, and Robert Clarence (Patricia Ruth Evans). He has 44 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and 4 great great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Leonard T (Linda Louise Park), and Charles T (Miriam Euphrasia Day). He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 3 brothers, Clarence Merrill, Joseph M, and Kenneth Lloyd, and 5 sisters, Helen, Florence, Mildred, Irene, and Maxine.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the American Fork 32nd ward chapel, 290 North 900 East. Friends may call Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork and Thursday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
