      Daniel was four years old when his parents moved their family from Nauvoo to Winter Quarters, where they remained until 1849. Then they started with other families for Salt Lake. They remained in Salt Lake for four years and then moved to Lehi where they remained.

      As Daniel got older, he helped build the fort wall for protection from Indians. In 1862, he went east with others to help bring the emigrants from the Missouri River out west. He was called on to help many other times to bring companies out west and to take supplies where needed. In 1864 he helped haul rock for the Salt Lake Temple and also made two trip that year for the church to Virginia City and Montana.

      After his marriage in 1866, he served in the Black Hawk Indian War. From that time on he lived in Lehi, farming and raising stock. He loved horses and raised champions, which he displayed at county fairs. In later life he wore gold rimmed glasses.
