Butte Youth Is Killed In Gun Mishap
Robert Strike, 17, of 1168 Evans avenue, a native of the Mining city, was killed almost instantly yesterday afternoon when a .22 caliber rifle accidentally discharged on a fishing trip near Deer Lodge. The youth was wounded near the heart.According to Sheriff Fred Valiton and Acting Coroner William Lintz of Powell county, the youth had placed the rifle against a rock. It slipped off and discharged.Young Strike with his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Smith, of Butte, had gone to Rock Creek lake near Deer Lodge on a fishing expedition, as they had on many occasions in the past.The accident happened shortly after 1 o'clock. The body is at the Ross mortuary in Deer Lodge.The youth is survived by his mother, Mrs. E. L. Strike, a patient at Galen; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bacon; six sisters, Ethel, Betty, Lucille, Rita, Delores and Loretta, and one brother, Donald, all of Butte, as well as uncles and aunts in Butte and Utah.
