      Merlin B Larson

      1923 ~ 2013

Merlin Boley Larson, born September 03, 1923 died peacefully with his son, Jerry at his side in Mesa, AZ, Wednesday, July 31, 2013, only one month away from his 90th birthday. Since his children all live in Utah, they are all especially appreciative that Jerry could be in Mesa with him when he died, in addition to Dianna, his wife and her family.

Merlin was born to parents Ludvig M. Larson and Vera Featherstone in American Fork and spent the first 71 years of his life in Highland, Utah. Merlin married Marie Busk on August 18, 1943 in the Salt Lake Utah Temple. She passed away on October 24, 1991. He moved to Tucson, AZ in 1994 when he married Dianna Kay Sayre on December 3rd in the Las Vegas Nevada Temple. They moved from Tucson to Gilbert in 2012. He loved the desert and enjoyed living in Arizona until the time of his passing.

Merlin was preceded in death by his parents as well as his 3 brothers and 3 sisters, wife, Marie Busk and daughter-in-law, Beth. He has three sons and one daughter, Mike (Jill), Jerry (Laura Ky), Farrell, and Karen (Wayne Watson), 14 grandchildren, and 35 great grand children who were the light of his life. He was currently married to Dianna Kay Sayre and had 6 step-children, Carolee (Scott), Debbie (Kurt), Bonnie (David), Scott (Cara), Carrie (Andrew), and Jason (Cami) and 23 step-grandchildren.

He was dedicated to his family and expressed his love constantly in a multitude of ways.

Merlin was an electrician at Geneva Steel until he retired in 1985; and also farmed during his entire life in Highland, first as a boy on his father's farm and then on his own land after he got married. He will always be remembered by those close to him as a hard worker and instilled that principle in all those around him, especially his children and grandchildren.

He was always a faithful member of his LDS religion and spent his entire life in the service of others, both member and non-member. He was a true Christian and loved all those he came in contact with. He spent many years in leadership roles in the Church including that of Bishop of the Highland Utah Ward for 13 1/2 years, at a time when there was only one ward in Highland, High Councilman in the Alpine Utah Stake, and Stake President of the Alpine Utah Stake and then Stake President of the newly formed Highland Utah Stake. In the early days as Stake President, he and Marie were honored to be able to host many General Authorities in their home on the weekends of Stake Conferences including Harold B. Lee, and Ezra Taft Benson. He was instrumental in building many LDS Chapels and Stake Centers and the purchasing of properties for future expansion of the Church in the Alpine and Highland area.

He served on the Utah County Planning Commission, Highland Planning Commission and Highland Culinary Water Board, for many years until he moved to Tucson, AZ.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Silver Creek Inn and Hospice of the Valley for their loving care of Merlin during his last months.
